friends class

“The Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14.

The “Friends” Sunday School class was established in 1999 and is designed to meet the needs of children, teenagers, and adults who have special needs.

Our Goal

Our goal is to ensure that all individuals experience the love of Jesus.

Our Meetings

The “Friends” class meets at 8:30, 9:45, and 11:15. In order to allow for Sunday School and Worship Service experiences for parents, students may attend one or more classes.

Our Location

The class is located in the Children’s Building, Room 217.

Our Director

Rosa Minx is the director of the Friends class at First Baptist Sunnyvale. She was born in San Marcus, Texas on July 12, 1957. She ultimately ended up in Texarkana, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1975. She attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She completed her Master’s degree in Education in November 1989. August 2009 marked the beginning of her 30th year with the Mesquite ISD where she has served as a Special Education Teacher, Diagnostician, and currently as a Special Education Coordinator.

She did not grow up in a Christian home. However, she had Christian friends that she knew through school. When she was in the 9th grade she was allowed to attend church with one of her girlfriends for almost a year. It was during this time that she became a Christian. In 1982, she married a wonderful man, Johnny Minx. Following their marriage, they joined Bethany Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. That same year, she was asked to help in their Special Needs Sunday School class. She was honored to be asked to do this. In 1984, the class had grown to the point that the class was split into two groups. Once they did this, Johnny, along with others, began to assist her in the new classroom. They continued to serve in this ministry, which included assisting with the Wednesday night special needs Heavenly Handbell Choir, until December 1998.

In January 1999, they transferred their membership to Sunnyvale First Baptist Church. In the spring of 1999 they were asked by the Education Director if they would start a special needs Sunday School Class at SFBC. At that time, there were several parents expressing a need for the classroom. She met with them and in the summer of 1999 the “Friends” class was established.

The Friends class has grown tremendously since the summer of 1999. Johnny continues to assist Rosa along with many other wonderful people. Without their help the ministry would not be possible. Each of us considers it a blessing to work with our special students.
