A Spiritual Wellness Check
The book of 3 John presents a spiritual wellness check through the stories of three individuals. Gaius exemplifies godly leadership through his prospering soul, commitment to truth, and generous hospitality toward traveling ministers. In contrast, Diotrephes represents selfish leadership, loving preeminence, rejecting authority, spreading gossip, and controlling others. Demetrius emerges as another positive example with an excellent reputation. The central message urges believers to carefully choose their influences, imitating good rather than evil, as our choices determine whether we participate in God's work or hinder it.
